1954 Lancia Aurelia B20GT

Built by the legendary Italian manufacturer from 1950-1958. The B20GT introduced in 53 for a 5 year run. Had only just over 500 cars produced for the Series IV, considered to be the most desirable.
The cars were extremely advanced for the time and driven by an elite group who demanded the best. Juan Manual Fangio, five time Grand Prix World Champion, drove one as his daily driver. Part of the appeal was a smooth understated body with incredible engineering beneath.
The B20 was upgraded to the 2.5 liter all aluminum 60 degree V6. The internals are almost indistinguishable from a modern motor. A unique overhead valve push rod design with a hemispherical head made this a smooth and powerful power unit. Producing a respectable 118 horsepower with a top speed of 112 miles per hour.
The interiors were very luxurious with a mixture of cloth and leather and many fine details. The unique gauges are easy to see and look almost identical to Ferrari and Masserati of the day. Lancia went the extra mile to provide everything necessary in the most simplistic and beautiful way possible.
A rear trans axle with 4 speed transmission and inboard brakes was unique at this time. The Series IV introduced a DeDion bar in the rear and continued the sliding pillar front suspension.
A 4-speed column shift was standard and Nardi, of the steering wheel fame, offered a floor mounted shifter which many cars including this one, were converted to. They also made a dual carb conversion, but people found them difficult to keep synchronized and made only a minimal amount of performance, therefore most were converted back to the single carb as the original design called for.
The engineering of these cars is impressive throughout the entire vehicle. Something as simple as a hood or trunk latch have been engineered to be a mechanical automatic wonder and beautiful in design. To keep the body smooth, no trunk latch was attached, rather they made the license plate lamp on the right side turn to open the trunk. Unusual for the day, the unibody construction of this car tremendously reduced rattles and squeaks that were common for body on frame construction of the day. So many features of this car were firsts, the first production car with radial tires as standard equipment, the first V6 and many other advances for the day.
Today these are extremely sought after cars because of their elegant design, reliability and performance/handling that make them perfect for modern vintage car rallies and even being eligible for the Mille Miglia and other European rallies. We have just completed a front to rear brake job and a full rebuild of the motor and tune-up, making this truly a ready to go car. It would look great in any collection and is stunning when in motion.
