1952 Ferrari 212 Inter Geneva Coupe Vignale

The 1952 Ferrari 212 restoration was completed at Gassman Automotive in January 2013. There were 6 of these cars made, and this is the first. After being displayed at the Geneva World Auto Show in 1952, the car changed owners several times, and engine once. The car was found in Connecticut in 2010, and the original engine was found soon after. It was then brought to Gassman, and many hours of research and hard work were poured into the restoration of this incredible Ferrari.

Gassman Automotive completed this restoration in January 2013. It was restored to factory original specifications and an amazing piece of art.

August 18, 2013:

The Ferrari was proudly displayed at the 63rd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. While it did not bring home any trophies, Gassman Automotive is extremely honored to attend such an event with such a brilliant car.

June 10, 2013:
The rear end was torn apart to find a problem in the differential. We assumed it was alright after being sent to us from another company so we didn’t touch it, however have now discovered that the bearings were bad. We rebuilt the assembly, and are putting the car back together again, very carefully!

January 22, 2013:

The Ferrari has left the building!!! It is being driven down to West Palm Beach, Florida for the Cavallino Classic XXII car show which is being held on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

15 minutes until the car carrier will be here, and the guys at Gassman are reassembling the Ferrari. We found out that we had incorrect shocks on the vehicle, and in the pursuit of perfection, they needed to be corrected. Video of the car leaving the shop to come!

January 10, 2013:

The Ferrari is finished! The carpets were completed today, and seats installed. After a long day of putting on the finishing touches, the car was driven for the first time… All the way into the paint booth for wash and wax and detailing for the professional photos today (photos to come soon!)

January 7, 2013:

The dash of the car has been completed, including all trim pieces. George has made and sewn the door panels, and is now finishing up the carpet and will be installing the seats soon. The hood and all of the hardware and latches are installed, and the springs have been wrapped in a protective layer of leather. The rear windshield is reinstalled, sealed, and the trim pieces are completed. Door handles are installed and working.

January 4, 2013:

Both of the doors and the hood have been put onto the car. The windows in the doors are installed as well. The lights in the headlights have been wired and are in working condition. The rear view mirror was fitted and installed. Unfortunately, the headliner and the rear wind shield had to be uninstalled in the pursuit of perfection. The countdown timer has now reached its end, and the final race to completion is on.

January 1, 2013:

We started the engine for the first time today! Although there were a few tweaks to be made, the engine runs great! The back seat interior is completed, and the leather on the dash was put in.

December 27, 2012:

The driver’s door is being attached to the body today. Some of the interior panels in the rear are installed, and the rest are being upholstered. The small rear windows were attached.

December 24, 2012:

The glove box is upholstered and installed. The dash is almost complete, including installation of the speedometer and tachometer. Door seals are being put in. The trunk is now complete, including spare tire. Fitting of panels in the back seat are being done today.

December 18, 2012:

The trunk lid now has the “I” attached, which stands for “Inter”. The headliner is done except for trim, and the dome light was installed today. Wiring is continuing. The gas tank is installed and now the trunk liner is being fitted.

December 17, 2012:

The trunk lid has been attached. George is currently sewing the headliner into the car. The headers were tweaked for a correct fit, and the hood and doors are being buffed and polished.

December 13, 2012:

The engine and the transmission were installed today. The Ferrari is definitely coming to life. With just over 3 weeks of work time left, it will be a race to the finish, but nothing that Gassman Automotive cannot complete!

December 11, 2012:

Both front and rear wind screens were installed today! (Sigh of relief!) The hood, trunk, and doors were painted. Kenny was finishing wiring in the engine compartment in preparation of the engine’s installation.

December 10, 2012:

Only 24 days left until the ferrari will be finished. The distributors, generator, and spark plug wires were added to the engine. The steering wheel, along with some of the knobs and the chrome, were installed. It is the original steering wheel with new wood around the trim. The seats are being modified for correct trim. The doors and door panels are being prepped for paint today.

December 5, 2012:

This has been a productive week! The brakes and emergency brake have been installed. Most of the external chrome accessories have been attached. The horn compressor and the horn have been mounted. Hardware for the front suspension has been changed. Inner fenders were installed, as well as the fresh air tubes. The paint department is finishing painting the rest of the small pieces for the car, and upholstery is carpeting the floor and beginning the headliner.

November 27, 2012:

Brake lines have been run. Wire harnesses are being installed, the head lamp housings have been fitted and installed. Chrome accessories are being fitted and installed as well. Front brake drums are in progress as well.

November 19, 2012:

Assembly has begun! Our upholsterer, George, sewed paint protectors for the entire car so that as assembly continues, the paint will remain in pristine condition. Floor pans were fitted and installed. All of the wiring is being run, and the pieces are coming together.
